William Timothy Baker's Obituary
William “Bill” Timothy Baker was called home to his Heavenly Father on November 6, 2022. Bill was born in West Yarmouth, MA on September 4, 1953 to William Paul and Annie “Ann” (Grew) Baker who have both preceded him in death. He was the 15th generation of his family to be born on Cape Cod. Descending from 20 passengers of the Mayflower. He was an avid genealogist and had been applying to the Mayflower Society following his William Brewster line. Bill graduated from Lowell Tech in MA and Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia with a Masters in Industrial Management. He worked for over 40 years in the plastics industry as an Asst. Plant Manager, Quality Control Manager and Process Engineer. He made bubble wrap, foam for packaging, other foam products and worked on developing siding for housing. With his work the family lived in CA, IL, WI, TN, KY and OH. After retirement, he moved to Utah.
He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1979 and a few years later he met his wife, Jacqueline Marie Putnam Baker. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple over 40 years ago. He recently bore his testimony at church and stated the 2 most important things he had done in his life were 1st to join the Church of Jesus Christ which led him to the 2nd, marrying his wife. They were blessed with four children, Miriam Neal (Anthony) and Joseph Baker both of Utah, and Mariah Latham (Joe) and Malia Hoffmann (Justin) both of Kentucky. In the last few years he had the opportunity to love on his 8 grandchildren, Isabela, Oakley, Joshua, Viola, Arthur, Sam, Lily, and Hazel. He was a very proud Grandpa.
He was the second oldest of 8 children. Daniel (Sky) Baker of Japan, Michael of MA, Kevin (Kate) of MA, Mary (Bob) of NY, Steve of Vietnam, Brian of NH and Noreen of MA. Who gave him several nieces and nephews as well as the ones he inherited from his wife. He had several cousins that he grew up with as well.
He loved to serve in his Church and served in many callings such as: Nursery Leader, Stake and Ward Mission leader, Executive Secretary, Ward and Financial Clerk, Elders Quorum President, Activities Committee Chairman, Ward Bulletin Preparer, Building Coordinator, Scout Leader, Young Men's Leader, High Councilor, Bishop, and Service Missionary.
He loved music of many genres like opera, musical theater, 50s and 60s rock n roll, 40s swing and crooner music, and Irish folk tunes and especially hymns among others. In those areas he could often name a hymn or song in just a few notes. He loved watching the PBS specials on The History of Country Music, Baseball, etc. He was also a big US History buff and quizzed his 4 children often with geography and US President facts. He could tell you all the Presidents in order, their parties, their wives, VPs, and years active, and he let you know it too! Because of this, he loved traveling to visit different historical landmarks with family.
His most recent project was converting a small school bus into an RV (Skoolie) for his wife because she wanted one. They were able to travel in the partially finished skoolie this summer to visit his daughters in KY and then onto the Toledo Museum of Art, The Ford Museum, Mackinac Island (where he loved visiting the Fort) and Picture Rocks on Lake Superior. Then onto Wisconsin and Minnesota to do family history. He and his wife had a wonderful 3 weeks of spending time together visiting these sites and meeting wonderful people along the way.
He was a great friend and adored by those who knew him. If you wish to offer condolences, please contact Wiscombe Memorial, Salt Lake City, Utah.
