Shirley Lou Davis' Obituary
Our mom, sister, Grams, friend, and octogenarian (a unique antique) passed away on April 8, 2017.
Shirley Lou was born in Thayne, WY on May 31, 1928 to Carl Golden and Ina Bertha Haderlie Erickson. She was the oldest and only daughter of six children. She was the first on both sides of her family to graduate from high school. Her Swedish grandfather Erickson was extremely proud to attend her graduation at Star Valley High school to hear her speak.
After high school, she attended Brigham Young University as a Theater major.
On September 28, 1949, she was married to Cyril Henry (C.H.) Davis. After their marriage, she and C.H. lived in Afton, WY, where they welcomed two beautiful children: Shauna and Mark.
Shirley Lou returned to school and attended Utah State University, graduating Phi Kappa Phi. She worked for Jordan School District for 17 years as an elementary school teacher, touching many students’ lives. She loved each student, and tried to ascertain each student’s talents and potential. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church, and served in many callings. Shirley Lou especially loved serving as the ward chorister, which she did many times.
She loved her children, music, piano, ukulele, being trustworthy, good etiquette, manners, and grammer. She loved her Rocky Mountains, learning (she often said her middle name was “why”), gardening flowers and vegetables, line dancing, teaching, traveling, cooking, healthy eating, theater, needlepoint, photography, sewing, and her beloved Sassycat.
She is survived by her daughter Shauna (Mike) Pehrson and son Mark (Lynell) Davis, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; four brothers: Carl, Spencer, Bryce, and Rondo; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother C.G., her husband, and several dear, loved friends.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the years of service given by her fellow ward members.
Our family also appreciates Markerita of Caring Hands for her loving care. We also appreciate Joan Simmons, Mom’s hospice nurse.
