Roy W. Franklin, Beloved Family Man, Dies at 59
Roy W. Franklin, a cherished husband, father, and esteemed community member, passed away on August 1, 2024, at the age of 59.
Born to Dorothy and Jack in 1964, Roy grew up in Utah, attending Taylorsville and Kearns High Schools. His career took him through numerous warehouses and docks, where his hard work and friendly nature earned him lasting friendships. Roy was dedicated to providing for his family, often working long hours to ensure their well-being.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, whom he married in 2005. He is also survived by his sons, Jared and Jordan; step-children Scott, Carrie, Chris, DeWayne, and Heather; his grandchildren Derek, Amethyst, Benjamin, and Braxton; his mother, Dorothy; and numerous siblings.
Roy had a passion for rock hounding and was an adventurous spirit who sought out new experiences. A quiet man of few words, he was deeply valued by those who knew him for the thoughtful conversations he shared. His love for his family was evident in his careful attention to the small details of their lives.
He found joy in many pursuits, including animal whispering, bird feeding, amateur art, and poetry writing. He approached life with a go-with-the-flow attitude and embraced every opportunity that excited him. Despite struggles with substance use earlier in his life, Roy made significant strides in overcoming these challenges over the past 20 years. He also enjoyed chaotic gardening, helping with large build or remodeling projects, and even dabbled in entrepreneurship.
Roy was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at a future date, which will be announced as details are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in the form of monetary contributions or gift cards.
Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, dedication to family and friends, and appreciation for the beauty in life will be remembered with great fondness.
