Robert Earl Riding's Obituary
Robert Earl (Bert) Riding was born September 30, 1951, in Burley, Idaho and passed away early
December 30 2023. Bert was the oldest child of Ralph Riding and Marjorie Bradshaw Riding.
Bert started elementary school in Burley, but the family moved to Clearfield, Utah where he completed Elementary, Junior High, and graduated Clearfield High School in 1969. After High School, Bert attended the University of Utah before joining the US Air Force. After completing his military service, Bert attended classes at Weber State College. Bert had many jobs throughout his life, including house painter, picture framer, and baker. He loved to bake, and was very good at it.
Bert excelled in programming and implementation using Linux. He had earned certificates, and was a Linux
instructor. Bert was also an accomplished organist, having taken lessons from the late Roy M. Darley
(Salt Lake LDS Tabernacle Organist) and performing several solo recitals.
Bert is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by brother Ray (Coralee)
Riding, Farr West, UT, and sister Ann Spjut, Oklahoma City, OK. He also had many friends with whom he
maintained close contact.
Bert suffered health issues for many years, but was determined to participate in outdoor activities, such
as river rafting and backpacking, as often as his health would allow. He would amaze his friends with his
resolve to go on these outings despite their protests. His friends were concerned that these activities
were too much for him considering his condition. He was stubborn enough to go, and he always made it
back in one piece.
No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please plant a tree
in his honor.
