Ray Newell Thompson's Obituary
Ray Newell Thompson, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Magna, Utah on April 24th, 2017 of natural causes. Ray was born in Salt Lake City on September 8th, 1932, son of Almer Thompson and Marvilla Potter. After an adventurous childhood he married Jean Lee Nelson on May 28th, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ray then served in the US military during the Korean War. Ray was a gifted handyman and carpenter. He could fix just about anything and used his talents to bless family, friends, neighbors and church members. He worked well into his eighties installing roofs, fixing cars and remodeling apartments. He was a remarkable man who was active in the LDS church and always possessed great faith.
Ray is survived by his wife, Jean, and 3 children Rinn (Josiane) Thompson, Tawn (Stephen) Swan, and Angie (Larry) Hatch; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Ray is also survived by siblings Vaida Mabus, Larry Thompson and Sharon Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings LaMar Thompson and Venice Thompson.
Ray will be buried at the Pleasant Green Cemetery on Thursday, April 27th. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service in his honor on April 29th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Magna East Stake Center, located at 2875 S 8000 W, Magna, UT at 12:00 PM.
