Preston Rex Proud's Obituary
Preston Rex Proud, age 74, passed away on October 23, 2020 in Murray, Utah. He was born August 16, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Patsie Arlene Ronneburg and Rexford Ivan Proud. He married Evilu Proud (Araujo).
He was the first child to survive open heart surgery in 1956. He graduated from Highland High School. He served an LDS mission in the Southwest British Mission in 1965. His signature can be found in the request for Hawaii to become part of the statehood. He was a hardcore Dallas Cowboy fan to my husband’s horror. He was a talented craftsman and made beautiful wood artwork. He made my mom a replica of the town of "It’s a Wonderful Life," that we treasure and struggle with every Christmas. He delighted himself in giving the grandchildren a hard time at Christmas by acting scroogie- bah humbug! He was the definition of the t-shirt "if grampa can’t fix it, no one can." He could also eat a whole pan of brownies by himself. He was a lover of theater plays, musicals and bluegrass. If he was anything besides smart, was funny. The life of the party! Guaranteed to make you smile. But when it was time to leave, you needed to “get out of my house.” He loved the Hawaiian islands that he ran through barefooted during the early years of his life and had a soft spot in his heart for St. George. There is so much more to a person than a place, a job or college degree. Grampa was such a wonderful man full of love, and wisdom. He was a survivor, he walked through life trying to find his place and true love. I hope that his soul can now see what his inner child sometimes refused to see, he was loved, treasured and the heart of our family. We are utterly shattered, and heart broken. Robbed of many more years of his silly, crazy, mocking, loving ways. With no doubt I can speak for myself, brother and my children: we are who we are because of you and your influence in our lives. Until we meet again, you are forever loved and will be missed greatly.
Survived by his wife Evi Proud and his children Elizabeth Lance, Andrea Hoeppner and Ernesto Lugo. And his loving grandchildren Ren, Preston, Adeline, Miranda, Nathan and Evan.
At his request, no service will be held.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wiscombe Memorial.
