Mathew Alan Syphus' Obituary
Mathew Alan Syphus, age 83, loving husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born January 11, 1941, in Salt Lake City to Deborah and Harry Syphus.
He married the love of his life Lenna on July 28,1958. They were married for 66 years and have four children together. Some of their best memories were hosting BBQs and pool parties with family and friends. Ab was a member of the Alpine Country Club where he and Lenna spent most Sunday mornings enjoying the game he loved most – golf! He worked most of his career in the insurance industry, and he was co-owner of Neville-Syphus Insurance Agency for 40+ years.
Ab had a big heart and always made sure his family was taken care of. He loved to tell stories and share his memories from over the years. He had a passion for cooking, watching the Utah Utes football games, and Utah Jazz basketball; and he never missed the Masters tournament.
He will be missed by so many and continues to be loved. The family would like to thank his nurses and doctors from Atlas Hospice, along with everyone who has stepped up over the last few months to help with his care.
He is survived by his wife Lenna, his children Brad (Vickie) Syphus, Troy (Tonna) Syphus, Debbie Shields, Kelly Young, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Ab was proceeded in death by his parents Harry and Deborah, his siblings Harry and Diana, and his grandson Zachary Shields.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6350 S. Rodeo Ln, Murray, Utah 84121. A luncheon will follow from the Ward’s Relief Society.
