Lynn William Halladay's Obituary
Lynn William Halladay passed away comfortably on September 11th, 2023 at his Magna home. He graced us with his knowledge and humor for 77 years. He was born on September 12th, 1945, to David and Betsy Halladay and grew up in Granger, Utah with his two brothers, Norman and Dean and his sister Sandy, who he loved to tease throughout his life.
Lynn's mischievous youth was spent hunting birds and exploring the vast open fields in the Salt Lake Valley. His deep affection for nature and the untethered outdoors helped shape the man he became. Lynn was a provider who proudly worked hard for his family. He was an icon of many talents. He worked at Winder Dairy, was a ranch hand in Montana, and then at Olympia Cabinets. He survived many union strikes at Kennecott's smelter throughout his long career. Dad received his apprenticeship as a pipe fitter from Penn State, marking his last profession before retirement with Delta Fire Systems. Lynn and his one true love, Sharon, made an impact on the community of Magna where they lived, laughed, and loved in the same home for 50 years. Welcoming and sharing their time with many. Dad loved taking his family on adventurous camping trips, enjoying windshield time throughout the state of Utah. If you knew Lynn, you saw his tremendous talent in taxidermy, and wood working, his respect and love for nature is represented through his art. Lynn was a beekeeper, partnering with his friend and neighbor Jeff. His garden was a haven that never seemed to disappoint and always grew mouthwatering tomatoes and cucumber pickles for canning. Lynn's backyard birds and beloved dog Roscoe mourn his absence.
Lynn was dedicated to the Local 669 Pipefitters Union where he made lifelong friendships. His compassion, sharing his knowledge with others, observing nature, cold beer in hand, sitting near his garden with Sharon, watching his birds and growing tomatoes, cheering on the Utes, being with family and friends, loving his dog and the art of woodworking is Lynn's legacy. He loved a good read and making his wife smile. Now they are together again, laughing, making jokes with their arms wrapped tightly around one another. He made a huge impact on the lives he knew simply by his presence.
Lynn is survived by his children; Dean (Stacey), Barbara (Greg), Bernice (Andrew). Grandchildren; Cassie, Jessica, Hunter, James, Piper, Watson, Lincoln, Hadley and Amelia . Brothers; Norman (Letty), Dean (Judy), Sandy (Frank). Lynn's honorary daughters; Tristin Tabish, Hilary Skoglund, Emily Anderson, Jeannine Fowler, Addie Vigil (Chuck) and Alison Einerson (Scott Marshall). Close friends: Murray Sharp, Jeff Buchanan, and his crew at Local 669 Pipefitters.
Predeceased by his devoted wife, Sharon.
An open house life celebration gathering will take place on October 1st from 3-6 pm at the Clubhouse in Brookstone Condominiums. 1630 East 6480 South, Murray Utah.
