With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joan Anne Stockholm (Boden), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, whose fierce spirit and unwavering loyalty touched the lives of everyone around her. Joan passed at the age of 92 on Wednesday, September 11th 2024. while being surrounded by loved ones who will miss her dearly. She has been reunited with her adored father George and treasured daughter Joni.
Joan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 24th in 1932 to George and Rita Boden. She was an only child and as such, she was the apple of her Father George’s eye. Like any adoring father, he showered her with love and affection while providing her a life of security by being a constant source of reassurance and guidance. Joan's close relationship with her father became the foundation for the love and devotion she showcased to those she cherished.
Joan lived her life with bold authenticity, embodying resilience, bravery, and a "take no crap" attitude that made her unapologetically herself. She faced every challenge head-on, never backing down and always finding a way through, instilling these same values in her children and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joan was a woman who never gave up, no matter the odds. Her resourcefulness and creativity knew no bounds, and perhaps her talent as an artist in her youth contributed to the rich, well-rounded personality that shaped her life. Whether she was raising her children with limited resources or building relationships with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Joan cultivated love and strength in every part of her world.
She taught her children to be tough, to stand up for themselves, and to always persevere. Joan believed that no obstacle was too great and that her family could accomplish anything they set their minds to. Despite facing struggles, she fostered a deep sense of confidence and capability in her children, ensuring they knew they could conquer anything life threw at them.
Joan was not only a mother and grandmother but a confidant, supporter, and unwavering friend. Her loyalty was unmatched, and she created a space where people could be themselves, showing compassion when others faltered. Her warmth and understanding allowed her loved ones to flourish, knowing that Joan always had their back.
Joan’s greatest joy in life was her family, and she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with each and everyone one of them. She sacrificed deeply to provide opportunities for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even stepping in to help raise some of them. Joan’s love and guidance created a heritage of strong, independent, and resilient individuals who will carry her spirit forward, living by her example of fortitude, determination, and joy. Joan leaves us with beautiful memories, endless gratitude, and a reminder of the strength, grit, and love she exemplified every day of her life.
Though Joan has left us, her legacy lives on in the true leaders she helped shape. Her influence will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched. Joan will be dearly missed, but her fierce spirit, and unconditional love will remain forever in our hearts.
