Joan Christine Schofield's Obituary
Joan Christine Howick Schofield passed with her loving family around her May, 6th, 2023. She is now resting after a long illness. She was living at her daughters house. She had continual attention from a great grandchild, grandchildren, children and close friends. The family would like to thank all those who stopped by the Antique Shop, phoned, sent notes, cards, and visited her to check on her and cheer her up. She was always happy to hear your kind words.
Her whole family, except a grandson in the Navy in Spain, were able to have a celebration of life with her. Each had a special time with loving words and they had a family prayer of thanks with her. Her sweet husband, Les, never left her side in the last 5 years as he so lovingly and selflessly fully cared for her.
Joan was born February 27, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Douglas K. Howick and Evelyn Alexander Howick. She grew up in the Holladay area. Enjoying trips to the cabin in Southern Utah, fishing, exploring, and loving Southern Utah. She graduated from Skyline High School.
Joan and her husband, Les, met dragging State street. And that started their life together. Fun, excitement, joy, discovery, and wonder. The next adventure was around the corner. Everything was possible. She made life a joy.
Together in January 1969, they opened their Antique Business. Two years later they got married in April 9, 1971. She raised her family in Sandy, Utah. In 1972, the 1st large Antique Show came to Utah. Joan's antique displays were fantastic and her sales ability was great. The Antique Shows were in Las Vegas, Del Mar CA., Portland OR., and Denver CO. She showed her full talent in the Antique Show she started and promoted at the Masonic Temple, downtown Salt Lake City. That show ran for 6 years until her first stroke and cold no longer do the show.
Joan was a great teacher and set up fantastic demonstrations of antiques. She did demonstrations in schools and taught adult education on antiques. She set up great pioneer displays with authentic early 1800 items. Her skills and expertise will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Douglas and Evelyn Howick and sister Jan Brown. Joan is survived by her husband Les, Children Emilee (Adrian), Chicago, Ray, New York, Liza (Deon), Taylorsville, and Carter (Jenn), West Jordan, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. The Family would like to thank Envision Hospice for their ministering to her needs. They watched over her care and helped her spiritual needs. Thank you nurses aid Gur, nurse Michelle, and Chaplain Amber. The chaplain with her kind words, gentle concern, and spiritual prayers helped to prepare Joan.
