Our beloved Father, James Seborn Rich passed away on September 24th, 2024, in Salt Lake County. He was born on February 2, 1953, in Price Utah, to Violet Rose Harget and Orvan J Rich.
He attended Murray High School, then served in the United State Marine Corps during Vietnam. He returned to work in the coal mines in Carbon County, UT. His knowledge encompassed numerous skills; he later started an excavating company following in his father’s footsteps.
He was handsome Casanova! He married Karen Wagstaff, had three Daughters, Shola Shurtz had a daughter and son, and Charlene Robbins had two daughters.
Now serving as a divine guardian, his greatest pride was in his children. He instilled in us the resilience to navigate life’s challenges, primarily teaching us to persevere on Earth. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors. He had a passion for cooking and could fix anything. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten by those whose lives he touched during his sojourn.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Troy Rich, wives, son James Shurtz, and stepdaughter Ashley Prater. His homecoming must have been a grand celebration.
His lasting legacy is his beloved family whom he loved with all his heart, all his might, and all his soul. He is survived by his daughters Monica Rich; daughter Shauna Smith, grandchildren Trinity Karr and Verron Paul Smith; daughter Jamie Maw, grandson Casen James; Felicia Stone, grandchildren Braxtyn, JT, Chloe; (James (deceased) and Janae Shurtz) twin grandchildren Navy and Easton; Rachel Rich. Two Great Grandchildren Solomon and Soleil Karr.

The family would like to thank all family and friends who have shown amazing grace, love, and support. As well as all his caregivers at Intermountain Health and Rocky Mountain Hospice team.
