Gilda Beatrice Franklin of Ogden, Utah made her transition on April 22, 2020 at 6:40 AM, from complications of Covid-19. On May 14, 1953 Gilda was born to Joe Woodard and Callie Jean Holston.
She was raised by her paternal grandparents Eudy (Peaches) and Melisse Franklin. She attended Pingree Elementary School; Washington Jr. High School; and graduated from Ogden High School in 1971. While attending OHS, she was the first black cheerleader, and black Senior class secretary. After high school, she attended Weber State College. Gilda was a woman of exceptional gifts and talents.
Gilda was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles, as well as her brother Howard Perkins and sister Brenda L. Turner. Gilda is survived by Melvin C Hampton Sr. and James Woodard (CA); Terrell Perkins. (OR); Joseph (Joe E) Woodard III, Ronald Woodward, Nicholas Woodward (UT); sister Janice Perkins (OR); nieces and nephews: Cerie Foster, (UT) Jessica Millward, PhD (Ca), Ja Cal Perkins (OR); Ronnel Woodward (UT) Melvin C Hampton Jr., PhD (NYC), Randolf Perkins (TX); grandnieces Mikaili Steward, Kiarra, Lailah and A’maya Redar (UT); grandnephews Alton Lews IV and Samuel E. Perkins III, (OR); as well as her beloved cousin, Richetta Alexander; and a multitude of friends and family who will remember her.
One of her greatest accomplishments was surviving breast Cancer and working on overcoming her debilitating health issues. She loved fresh French fries and ice cold Coca Cola. We will always remember her saying, “Hug and tell those close to you how much you love them.”
