Gary Leigh Vom Baur (10/22/1948-09/06/2021)
Gary Leigh Vom Baur, 72, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 peacefully in his home in Murray, Utah.
Gary was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Eugene and Elizabeth Vom Baur on October 22, 1948. Gary grew up and attended school in Salt Lake City, graduating from Highland High School in 1967. After graduating he moved to California, where he lived most of his life. Gary married Lauri Trifon in 1969. Lauri and Gary had two children (Codi and Sean) and were later divorced. In 2001, Gary reconnected with his high school sweetheart Kathie Bruehl Croft. Gary and Kathie soon married and have spent the last 20 years together. Gary and Kathie loved adventure and chose different places to live and experience but finally settled to live in Murray.
Gary loved his family very much and was proud and protective of them. His daughter, Codi, was very special to him and he was proud of the woman she became. Gary spread his love among all of his family and made all of his grandchildren feel special and loved. Gary was very proud when his daughter Codi had her children and made him grandpa to Easton and Emery. He loved them very much. He also was grateful to have so many wonderful grandchildren from Kathie’s children whom he also adored.
Gary was a self-made business man. Gary ran his own successful business his entire life to build and provide for his family. He was a charming and persuasive salesman that was always on stage and could charm anyone he met. Gary commanded a presence wherever he went and truly lived a colorful and full life.
Gary loved to cook and was especially proud of his homemade spaghetti sauce and thought for sure he could get a deal on Shark Tank if he wanted to share his recipe. Gary was a man full of life, aspirations, and amazing experiences. He loved to tell stories of when he met Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, Sonny and Cher and many other exciting and well known people.
Gary is survived by his wife Kathie Vom Baur (Bruehl) Murray, Utah; his daughter, Codi Machlovitch (Bern) Calabasas, CA; his son Sean; his step-children, Rob Croft (Orthella) West Jordan, Utah; Nicole Croft, Murray, Utah; Sarah Croft, Murray, Utah; Jon Croft (Billy Lewis) Holladay, Utah. He is also survived by his grandchildren Easton and Emery Machlovitch; Nate Brown; Brandon, Rachael, Ryan, Kendra, Luke, and Lacy Croft. He also is survived by his sisters; Paige Vom Baur, California; Anastasia Gerson, Arizona; Kailen Vom Baur, England; and by his brother; Kain Vom Baur, California.
Gary was preceded in death by both his parents, his brother Tim and his nephews Joshua and Kohl.
Gary requested to be cremated and requested no funeral services. However, the family will have a celebration of life at a later date.
