Elsie Ruth Wittsell's Obituary
Elsie Ruth Wallace Wittsell, age 85, passed away on December 30, 2017 at Sagewood at Daybreak due to natural causes. She was born on April 28, 1932 in Ventura, California to Elsie May Harrison and Raleigh Lorn Wallace. She married Larry Wittsell on June 19, 1951 in the St. George L.D.S. Temple.
One of Ruth's greatest devotions in life was her husband. For Ruth it was love at first sight, "I've seen the man I am going to marry." Larry proposed on their first date and they had 66 years together. Roth's life was one of service. She was always helping her family, friends, church and community. She served in many different positions at church from Primary to Relief Society. Her last service for church was as a counselor in the Relief Society. She also served many years at the Provo Temple and was always ready to substitute for anyone needing time off.
Her service in the community included many decades of service in the scouting program. She organized many Cub Scout day camps and encouraged the boys to earn their Eagle Scout. She was recognized for her dedicated service by being awarded the highest honor in scouting, the Silver Beaver.
Ruth was very proud of her pioneer heritage and spent many years volunteering with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. There are innumerable accounts of service that she performed for family, friends and neighbors. She always performed her service with a smile and great love for her fellow man. In fact, Ruth's most endearing trait was her capacity to love unconditionally anyone she met. Once you met Ruth, you recognized her loving heart, her generosity and her joy in service.
She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Larry Wittsell; her sisters, Frances; Faye and Nancy; her daughters, Cherrin; Laura; Lorna and Karna; as well as her sons, Paul and Christopher. She is also survived by 24 Grandkids and 29 Great-Grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Jean.
At her request there will be no viewing. A gathering will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Sagewood at Daybreak 11289 South Oakmond Road South Jordan, Utah 84009. Arrangements are under the direction of Wiscombe Memorial.
