Dean Michael Martindale's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dean Michael Martindale. Who passed away March 19, 2025, at the age of 70. After fighting with various health related issues.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, D. Michael was a beloved father and cherished grandfather. He spent his life as a storyteller, whether that was through his many published novels, his filmmaking, or his music. He loved to tell stories that people enjoyed.
D. Michael earned an Associate Degree in Film Production at Salt Lake Community College and a Bachelor Degree in Screenwriting and Cinematography at Utah Valley University.
Throughout his life he focused on telling stories about his religious upbringing. In particular stories about the LDS church, Mormons and Joseph Smith. Inspired by Jesus Christ Superstar, he composed the musical General Prophet Joseph Smith based on the events leading up to the martyrdom of the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith.
His favorite medium to tell stories was through film. He wrote, produced, directed and edited eight short films and in 2010 a feature-length film Geeks and Goblins, Elves and Elliot. He also had a passion being an author, writing many novels, from Fantasy, Science Fiction, Religion and short stories.
D. Michael was survived by his three children, Natalie (Chris), Matt (Rachel) and Alyssa; his two grandchildren, Amellia and Lila (Matt and Rachel) who he thought were the most adorable grandchildren in the world. He is also survived by his four siblings, Don (Dianna), Teri (Ned), Lori (Richard) and Sara. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Doris.
He will be deeply missed and will always be a reminder to be true to who you are.
