Clyde Illum Mitchell's Obituary
Clyde (Kim) Illum Mitchell, age 72, passed peacefully in his sleep, due to natural causes, on August 4th, 2023. He was residing at Mount Olympus Care Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 11, 1951 to Clyde and Neva Mitchell.
Kim enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. As a child Kim was an avid Boy Scout and loved collecting rocks and arrowheads. Kim was artistic and loved painting and drawing. When he was 19 years old he joined the US Armed Forces and served in the Navy from 1970-1972. He served on submarines and swift boats during the Vietnam War. This was a difficult time and he gave much to his country. Kim was an avid motorcyclist. He loved spending time on his motorcycle and taking trips with his wife. He loved all things Harley Davidson and could always be found wearing his full leathers even in the dead heat of summer with a large Mountain Dew nearby. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Kim is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Ottinger Mitchell and step son, Jason Kelly Smith. He is survived by his mother, Neva Rae Mitchell, his beloved wife Lisa Anne Mitchell, and step children Mellissa (Eric) Phillips and Derrick Nielson. Kim was married to Sue Mitchell from 1975-2000 (approx.) and their children are Dallas (Saranne) Mitchell and Misty Mitchell. He has 11 grandchildren. Kim is the oldest of 5 siblings and is survived by Blair (Karin) Mitchell, Nancy Davis, Mike (JoAnn) Mitchell, and Gordon Mitchell and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the nurses, and hospice staff at Mount Olympus Care Center. Thank you for caring for Kim for the past couple of years. We know he appreciated all the Coke and Mountain Dews you gave him.
Family and friends are invited to visit with family at his viewing, Aug 17, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Camp Williams, 17111 S Camp Williams Rd Bluffdale, UT. Funeral services will follow directly after the viewing. Following the funeral services, the graveside service will include Military Funeral Honors and the playing of Taps.
