Blaine Stewart McClellan's Obituary
Blaine Stewart McClellan, age 78, passed from this life on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at St. Joseph's Villa. He was born on February 7, 1939 in Ruth, Nevada to Clyde Earl and Freda Mae Stewart McClellan.
When Blaine was 4 years old his family moved from Nevada to a home on University Avenue in Provo, Utah and lived there through his High School years. Blaine had a great love of movies which is how he spent most of his time in his early years. When he was 18 he joined the US Army and went to Boot Camp at Fort Ord, CA. Following his Freshman year at college he served an LDS mission to Hermosillo, Mexico where he served in Rio Bravo and Tamaulipas.
Blaine Stewart McClellan graduated from BYU with a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and went on to receive his Master's Degree in English Literature at the University of Utah. He lived in Salt Lake City for numerous as a single adult. He taught High School English in Coalville, Utah; Ferron, Utah; Tooele, Utah; and East London South Africa.
He married Grace Doris Fripp in 1972, they had Brux in 1974, Chad in 1976, Jeff in 1978 and Scott in 1986. From 1975 through 1977 Blaine and his family lived in South Africa. When he was at the University of Utah he spoke out against the Vietnam War and in South Africa he spoke out against Apartheid. He divorced in 1997 and was remarried in 2001 to May Barney. Blaine and May served an LDS mission to Portland, Oregon and were divorced in 2005. He married Hope Atwood Walker in 2006 and lived with her until her death in 2014.
Blaine had a great love of the outdoors, camping, hiking and storytelling. When he attended BYU he spent many summers working at Denali State Park in Alaska (back then it was named Mount McKinley National Park). He frequently took his family to National Parks because of his tremendous love of the outdoors. He rarely went camping without telling Ghost Stories.
He is survived by his four sons; six grandchildren; his first wife, Grace Read of Brigham City, Utah and his sister, Diane Daniels of St. George, Utah. He was preceded in death by Hope Atwood Walker McClellan; May Barney; his parents; brother, Lamar McClellan; sister, Dixie Allen.
