Bertha Joan Hoskin Clark's Obituary
Bertha Joan Hoskin Clark, age 81, passed away on April 7, 2021 in West Valley City, Utah. She was born on June 1, 1939 in Wellsville, Utah to Lucy Mabel Griffin and Joseph Jenkins Hoskin.
Early Life:
She was the tenth child of eleven in her family, a position she shared with her mother. Both would comment on being the “tithing” child, fearing they would be given to the bishop for tithes. She had a love of animals, as a child she could be seen walking down the street with her lamb “buttons”, duck “waddles”, dog and other animals. She was a bit of a animal whisperer that always served her.
Bertha Joan always preferred Joan and would make it known to all in her direct but kind manner. To the family she was “Berk” or “Bertha”. Family and God were of high importance to her and never left her mind. She cherished her pioneer heritage, her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Watching conference twice a year was an event in her home, all the televisions and radios all had to be on during the broadcast. She had a connections with those that have passed on like her mother did, a spiritual gift that guided her during her mortal probation. Guiding her children were also of great importance to her. She was committed to her children and worked tirelessly to guide and protect them.
Education:
Joan had an extensive education during her life. After graduating from South Cache High School she perused a modeling career, graduating from modeling school. She used this education to teach her daughters in multiple disciplines. She was not able to continue due to health concerns. Later on she went to dental hygienist school in San Francisco, this she also had to discontinue due to health concerns. She pursued and earned an associates degree from Weber State College.
Interests:
Joan was an avid reader, always having a book or two at her disposal. Gerald N Lund was one of her favorite authors. She enjoyed doing puzzles, crossword and word search puzzles. Solitaire was a favorite card game, one could always find a deck of cards nearby. In the last 3 years a tablet helped her connect to the internet. She loved the fiber arts, cross stitch and crochet were popular activities that resulted in beautiful framed art.
Joan is survived by Stephanie Clark Amador, daughter Douglas M Clark, son Kayleen Clark, daughter Scott Hoskin Clark, son. Alessandra Lucy Amador, grand daughter Brittney Ann Clark, grand daughter Steven Douglas Clark, grandson Dallas Clark, grandson Courtney Clark grand daughter. Charlene Pierce, sister Janice Lewis, sister Clarence Hoskin, brother Edwin Hoskin, brother.
Joan is preceded in death by Lucy Mabel Griffin, mother Joseph Jenkins Hoskin, father Merlin Hoskin, brother Alta Paice, sister Keith Hoskin, brother Norma Tackett, sister Darwin Hoskin, brother Jerry Hoskin, brother.
