Wesley R. Packer

Wesley R. Packer, age 72, peacefully passed away May 29, 2020 in Millcreek, UT due to heart failure. He was born September 4, 1947 in Salt Lake City, to LaWana Rigby and Earl Eugene Packer. Wes grew up in Sugar House in the Forest Dale area. He attended Columbus Elementary, Irving Jr High and graduated from South High School in 1966. In his youth, Wes was active in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouts of America and Little League Baseball. As a teenager, Wes studied elocution with Grace Nixon Stewart. He participated in scripture reading presentations in LDS sacrament meetings throughout the Salt Lake area. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wes faithfully served in the Northwestern States Mission from 1966-1968. In 1969, he was selected as a participant in the Hill Cumorah Pageant. In later years he served as a temple worker in Salt Lake City. Worked as a Maintenance worker at the Church Office Building until his retirement. Most recently he was a Safety Crossing Guard for Granite School District. Wes is survived by his mother, LaWana R. Packer, sisters, Gayle (Rick) Haag, Kalynn (Russ) Sedgwick and Renae Walker. Also survived by his 5 children: Jeffrey, Lauriann, Mark, Kevin and Wade. He leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Earl Eugene Packer and younger brother, Mark R. Packer. Private Graveside services were held under the direction of Wiscombe Memorial. Interment Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
